Replacing Small Business Server 2011 with Windows Server 2016 & Office 365
The Design Partnership (Ely) Ltd were founded in 2002, employing over 15 highly skilled design staff and architects. They are based in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire and provide various architectural, design and building project management services across the UK.
Problem Statement
The Dell PowerEdge running Windows Small Business 2011 had served its time well but was coming to the end of its life.
Microsoft Exchange 2010 was holding back the deployment of newer versions of Microsoft Office and Windows 10.
The server was at the end of its life and blocking security and feature upgrades in other areas of the business.
Solution & Benefits
We supplied and deployed a high capacity, high performance, Dell PowerEdge server running Windows Server 2016. This featured dual power supplies, an enterprise grade Dell Remote Access Controller (DRAC), a RAID of high capacity SAS disks and a quad port gigabit NIC. All backed up to the Microsoft cloud using Microsoft Azure Recovery Services (MARS).
The email was seamlessly migrated to Microsoft Office 365. All client machines were upgraded to Office 365 Business with Office 365 Advanced Threat Protection, DKIM and DMARC.
All users were given Office 365 Business Premium and Office 365 Advanced Threat Protection licences plus other Office 365 security measures were enabled. Sophos Antivirus with Sophos Intercept X was also deployed across the entire estate.
Server capacity is up, server performance is up and security has increased across the board all paving the way for future client upgrades.
