Perse Girls Admin Network
Summer 2001
The school invited us to design them a completely new office network, linking together several of their internal departments. They had made some progress in networking their existing computers within each department, but were struggling to control the many versions of software and hardware that were now in existence.
- We installed a Microsoft Exchange server providing them with centralised email, calendar sharing and basic contact management functionality
- We provided a Linux router and firewall server, providing every networked PC with access to the Internet. In addition to Internet connection sharing, it's job was to protect the internal network from external attack
- All workstations were installed with a standard build of Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional with a copy of Microsoft Office 2000
- The servers were installed and configured running Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 to maintain compatibility with some of their legacy applications
- New hardware included Dell Optiplex workstations, Dell PowerEdge servers, Netgear switches and network interface cards
