Lane Fox Contact Manager

During the final months of 2004, we were approached by Lane Fox who asked us to help them unite and centralise their existing contacts databases to form an exciting new web-based Contact Management System (CMS).

We imported existing data from all of the offices nationwide, checking it for consistency, accuracy and duplication throughout. We developed a comprehensive staff and office tagging system that allows each Lane Fox team member to track their own contacts as easily as before, whilst still enabling the whole organisation to work together as one. Analysis codings allow contacts to be grouped into advanced sets and manipulated as needed for the current task-at-hand.

The system includes an extremely powerful yet easy-to-use Search system based around the query-by-example concept. The same approach is used again to provide Bulk Update functionality, allowing users to quickly change many records at a time simply by providing the system with an example of how they would like the selected contacts to look.

We used the latest technologies throughout the implementation. A combination of leading-edge web and database techniques provide great performance and reliability and ensure that the Contact Manager will remain a valuable tool for Lane Fox for many years to come.  

  • Fully web-based client designed for Internet Explorer 6 and above browsers using CSS layout techniques
  • Centralised server running RedHat Enterprise Linux hosts all the back-end software
  • Apache web server delivers content prepared and controlled by a Perl 5 middle-tier
  • Firebird 1.5 database platform provides speed, capacity, reliability and functionality in one single package
  • Dynamic SQL allows advanced searches to be built server-side, eliminating unnecessary search terms whilst abstracting query complexity from the client
